Bon Dance in Honolulu, HI


Hawaii’s culture is a mixture of cultures from all over the world, particularly from Asia. In the late 1800s and early 1900s when Japanese immigrant workers came to Hawaii to work in the sugar plantations, they brought with them their culture and traditions. One such tradition that is still practiced today is the Bon Dance to honor and celebrate one’s ancestors. Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike of all ages participate in annual Bon Dances around Hawaii for religious and/or social purposes….
