One of the predecessors to the modern Hawaiian shirt is a blue and white checkered shirt called the palaka shirt. Once a standard work shirt for plantation workers, it was a favorite of former Hawaii governor John Waihee. As we prepare for a future video project, we find ourselves in search of this rare shirt. Finding these shirts nowadays is difficult because most manufacturers have stopped making them. Lucky for us, we found one at a shop called Locals Only at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
